today i started on the forms for the sidewalk, i also have raised All the money!!!! YAHOO thank you all so much !!!! come look at the high school after spring break.

Last night I had a meeting with the school board to make sure I would be allowed to do my senior project. It was basically a mini senior project speech and I aced it no problem. So no I can go full bore on my project!!!!

Every person has donated their fair share and I appreciate everything everyone has done. A special thank you to Robert Wienecke and My wonderful sister Erin Cooper. Yesterday I went fund raising and I received $50 in donations. I also made $80 from donated cans and bottles. I am now up to $691 which means I am about 70% of the way to my goal of $1000. Thank you all so much! Also if anyone reading this post has soda cans, beer cans or beer bottles that you would like to donate to the FCHS project, please let me know. Today I went and cashed the cans that I collected and it came out to be $50. Thank you all so much and a special "Thank You" to Paula's kitchen. They set up a fund raising jar for me and I made $30 from them! I am now up to $550. Thank you all so much!

Today I went fund raising with a new idea in mind. I went fund raising as usual, but this time I also asked for cans. I received several donations tonight from many people in the community. One person in particular gave me three years worth of cans, as well as forty dollars! So a big thanks to Scott Jarmer and his wife!

I met with city council last night and they agreed to waive the fee for the building permit. Thank you so much! It is so helpful! I am now at $470 and I still have loads of cans turn in for money. Thank you all for your support. Your support really means a lot and I am glad the community is so willing to help.

Hey everyone I just found the person I am going to be job shadowing for my senior project. His name is Ken Chadwick; he is Ron Johnson’s son. He does concrete finishing work. So hopefully I will be able to pick his brain about sidewalks and possibly do some work. Things are looking hopeful

Falls City High School Senior Project

My name is Jackson Basey. I am a senior at Falls City High School and I've created this blog to raise funds for my school. All the students at Falls City High School must participate in a senior project before they can graduate. The senior projects are meant to build community and hone personal skills.

Over the past three years I have worked for for various members of the community and in other parts of the state doing construction projects. Up until now, I've only been a team member on these types of projects. My goal for the senior project is to design, plan, and build a 70' sidewalk for the school entrance.

This walkway will cover the west side of the school lawn and lead to the main entrance. Currently, this pathway is simply a dirt trail that frequently becomes a muddy mess. This is an eyesore and affects the appearance of the school. It is also a trial for the custodial staff, who constantly have to deal with mud being tracked into the school.

I have contacted a community member, retiree Ron Johnson, who has 30 years of experience in construction and concrete work, to advise me on the project. I will also be working with Jon Gilbert, the Falls City High School Facilities Manager, who oversees all the maintenance and upkeep on the school grounds.

The state requires certain criteria for the project to be completed. The width and depth of the sidewalk must meet ADA (American Disability Act) guidelines. The sidewalk must be a six feet wide by six inches deep.

Budget requirement for FCHS Sidewalk Project: $1000 dollars

Materials:

Cement

Lumber

Gravel

Fill Dirt

Local community members have graciously offered the use of tools and equipment for the project. I will work along side my advisers and other community volunteers to create and perfect this walkway. The school requires that the project be done before March 31st, 2010.

My goal is to raise 1000 dollars to purchase the supplies for the project by February 28th, 2010. I would appreciate donations of any size.
